Frequently Asked Questions
WHAT DOES IT FEEL LIKE?
The experience is different for everyone, but generally it is extremely relaxing and pleasant, rather like daydreaming but with your eyes closed. Both your body and mind relax to an extent, that when you come out of the trance you are likely to feel very calm and revitalised, as if you have awoken from refreshing sleep.
We all dip in and out of hypnoidal states throughout the day, such as the transition
between waking and sleeping, when we are watching a deeply engrossing film, or even when we drive along a route we are very familiar with when we can feel that we are almost driving automatically.
WILL I REMEMBER EVERYTHING?
Everyone is different, but generally speaking we go more deeply into hypnosis the more we practise it, and it is when we are in a deeper state of trance that we exerience amnesia. So do not be surprised after your first session, if you remember most of what was said. After a few sessions you may find that there are
more gaps in your memory. However, different conditions require varying levels of trance, and amnesia is not a pre-requisite for success so it is best not to overanalyse your experience and just relax and go with it.
CAN ANYONE BE HYPNOTISED?
Yes. So long as a client wants to be hypnotised, feels comfortable with the therapist and is not harbouring any misplaced fears about hypnosis. All hypnosis is
self-hypnosis and it is important for clients to know that they remain in control and that it is a collaborative experience.
HOW MANY SESSIONS SHOULD I NEED?
Every course of treatment is tailored to the individual's needs, and the number of sessions required depends on the nature of the issue/s and how the client responds to hypnosis. On average a minimum of 3 sessions is required. After 3 sessions the majority of clients have achieved some significant positive change. Many choose to continue for up to 6 and occasionally more sessions, and some find 3 suffices. For smoking cessation most clients only require one long session of around two and a half hours.
HOW LONG DOES A SESSION LAST?
An intial session lasts approximately one and a half hours. This is generally the longest session because Elle will need to take a full case history to get to know the client properly and to find out everything that may be relevant to the treatment of the condition. After this longer first session, most subsequent sessions last an hour. The only exception to this is smoking cessation which can usually be treated in one long session lasting approximately two and a half hours.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
At her private practice in Kennington Elle charges £100 per hypnotherapy session (including an initial, longer session) and £250 for a stop smoking session.
Elle's prices at Reebok are £130 per session.
